june soup night 6/14
tomato soup and grilled cheese!
Hello soup fans,
Next Soup Night is a week from today, 6/14, from 5:30-8:30 PM at the Phillips Rec Center in Urbana. No RSVP! Just show up with a bowl and spoon.
Extra special menu for this month— tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, and watermelon! The soup is vegan, as always, and the grilled cheese will have vegan options. Grilled cheese can have gluten free options on request.
There will also be vegan pies! My dad will be coming, and he takes pie as seriously as I take soup. He bakes pies for every occasion. I told him there’s no upper limit on the number of pies he can make, but maybe come early this month.
Sorry I missed the email for last month— I’ve been really caught up in behind-the-scenes work. If all goes well, there should be some big updates by the end of the summer! Fingers crossed, I should get more formal support soon. Also, Soup Night turns 4 years old in July!!! I want to be more intentional about the space I’m creating. I’ve been doing a lot of writing and thinking. I haven’t really updated the mission or rules since I first wrote them, but I’ve learned so many things since 2022.
Can anyone bring folding tables or chairs? This month, we won’t have as much flexibility with seating because Phillips Rec needs us to leave its summer camp setup in place. I’m going to try to take full advantage of the patio area!
Also, no pressure, but donations are welcome this month because grilled cheese night can be pricey! Soup Night is donation-based, and usually I have enough support because I rely on donated beans and cheap ingredients. But for tomato soup night, all the ingredients are store-bought, and the cheese can really add up. If you feel like it, you can Venmo @Ezra-Rubel, donate to the Ko-fi, or I have a tip jar on site.
Other reminders:
If you like this event, please consider putting it in your calendars! 2nd Sunday of every month, 5:30-8:30 PM at the Phillips Rec Center in Urbana.
As always, the soup will be free and vegan!
Feel free to email me for an ingredient list, but I can’t guarantee accommodations for any other dietary restrictions.
Masks are recommended and will be provided.
There’s a little bit of outdoor porch space, but it doesn’t have much seating. Please bring folding tables and chairs if you want them, because we can’t bring Phillips Rec furniture outside!
Sticker swap! Bring stickers you don’t want, and take some from the table!
Bring any business cards or flyers that you want to set on the table by the stickers too.
Feel free to bring a to-go container. Especially if you come near the end of the event, I try to send people home with leftovers!
If you have any questions, please check the Linktree or email me at cusoupnight@gmail.com.
See you soon,
Ezra
